Understanding your dog

IVDD & spinal disease

An individual rehabilitation conversation shaped by veterinary findings, current function and the dog’s wider needs.

Start with the individual.

Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and other spinal conditions can lead to very different rehabilitation conversations. Veterinary information, any surgery, current restrictions and the dog’s abilities need to inform the assessment; a condition name alone cannot determine a plan.

Owners often have practical questions about handling, home arrangements, movement and longer-term support. A shared plan should clarify responsibilities and communication, including who to contact about a change. Educational resources can help frame those questions without replacing individual advice.

Questions for your next conversation.

  • What veterinary information do you need before assessment?
  • How will our existing restrictions guide rehabilitation?
  • Who should we contact if our dog’s condition changes?

Approaches to discuss.

These are related areas of care to explore with the team. An individual assessment determines which, if any, are suitable for your dog.
