Working in water

Canine hydrotherapy

Water is one possible part of a wider rehabilitation plan. The starting point is the dog, their movement and what matters in everyday life.

One part of an individual plan.

At House of Hound, hydrotherapy sits alongside assessment on land, physiotherapy, therapeutic exercise and other approaches. A conversation about diagnosis, comfort, confidence, health and home life helps shape whether water work belongs in an individual plan.

The pool and underwater treadmill offer different environments. Choosing between them is a clinical decision, made with the individual dog in mind and reviewed as their needs change. An appointment is also an opportunity to notice how they move, respond and communicate.

What shapes the conversation?

  • Your dog’s veterinary history and current rehabilitation goals.
  • Their comfort around water, handling and unfamiliar environments.
  • How water work relates to movement and activities at home.

Questions you can bring.

  • Why are you considering water work for my dog?
  • What would make the pool or underwater treadmill more appropriate?
  • What should I share with you before the appointment?
