How a rehabilitation plan takes shape

Assessment, shared goals and review connect the different parts of rehabilitation.

A closer look.

An individual plan considers the diagnosis alongside movement, pain, behaviour, emotional state, age, fitness, lifestyle, environment and owner circumstances. Evidence guides clinical reasoning, while the particular dog and household shape what is suitable and practical.

Goals provide a reason for the work and a focus for review. Progress may be discussed through everyday function, owner observations and assessment information. Ask what will be reviewed, how decisions will be explained and how to share a change between appointments.

Questions to take into a conversation.

  • Which goals matter most for our dog’s everyday life?
  • What information will help us review the plan?
  • How can the plan adapt if our circumstances change?

A Huxley explanation, in time.

Download the written guide and its questions as a plain text file to read or print. It is general owner education, rather than an individual home rehabilitation plan.
