Ageing: keep seeing the individual

Getting older does not make every change inevitable or every dog’s needs the same.

A closer look.

An older dog still has preferences, interests and a particular way of moving through daily life. Age belongs in a clinical assessment, but it should not be used to explain a change without considering the wider picture.

Think about the moments that matter to your dog now. Discuss new changes with the veterinary team and bring practical questions about the home, routines and support to rehabilitation appointments. A useful plan recognises both the dog and the household.

Questions to take into a conversation.

  • Which changes need a conversation with our vet?
  • What does a good ordinary day look like for this dog?
  • How can the plan fit the support available at home?

A Huxley explanation, in time.

Download the written guide and its questions as a plain text file to read or print. It is general owner education, rather than an individual home rehabilitation plan.
