Huxley explains the land-based treadmill

A moving surface should have a clear purpose within the plan and a considerate introduction.

A closer look.

A land treadmill is one possible environment for movement work. Whether it belongs in a plan depends on assessment, the dog’s needs and the goal being considered. It is not a substitute for understanding how the dog moves in everyday settings.

For many dogs, the equipment will be unfamiliar. Confidence, handling and opportunities to pause are part of the session. Ask what the team hopes to observe and how that information will relate to activities beyond the centre.

Questions to take into a conversation.

  • What is the purpose of using a land treadmill here?
  • How will you introduce an unfamiliar moving surface?
  • How does this work connect to our wider goals?

A Huxley explanation, in time.
