Choice, consent and cooperative care

Participation is a conversation to keep noticing throughout an appointment.

A closer look.

Choice and cooperative care invite us to consider how a dog takes part in handling and rehabilitation. Understanding is individual and depends on context; quiet behaviour alone should not be treated as a complete account of how a dog feels.

Ask how the team recognises willingness, uncertainty and a need to pause, and how those observations influence the session. Owners can share the communication they know from home. Any specific handling or learning plan should be agreed for the individual dog.

Questions to take into a conversation.

  • How will my dog’s responses influence the session?
  • What should I share about their handling preferences?
  • How can we discuss any agreed approach to cooperative care?

A Huxley explanation, in time.

Video footage is forthcoming. This is an image placeholder, not a playable video. The written guide is available now; a real House of Hound YouTube video can be added when supplied.

Download the written guide and its questions as a plain text file to read or print. It is general owner education, rather than an individual home rehabilitation plan.

Connect this to your dog’s care.
