HOUSE OF HOUND | LEARN WITH HUXLEY Sample owner education · Website concept 03 Choice, consent and cooperative care Behaviour & wellbeing Participation is a conversation to keep noticing throughout an appointment. Choice and cooperative care invite us to consider how a dog takes part in handling and rehabilitation. Understanding is individual and depends on context; quiet behaviour alone should not be treated as a complete account of how a dog feels. Ask how the team recognises willingness, uncertainty and a need to pause, and how those observations influence the session. Owners can share the communication they know from home. Any specific handling or learning plan should be agreed for the individual dog. QUESTIONS FOR YOUR NEXT CONVERSATION 1. How will my dog’s responses influence the session? 2. What should I share about their handling preferences? 3. How can we discuss any agreed approach to cooperative care? Discuss your dog’s circumstances with the veterinary and rehabilitation teams. Huxley doesn’t define. Huxley doesn’t diagnose. Huxley doesn’t prescribe. Huxley doesn’t assume. Huxley doesn’t stereotype. He empathises. He empowers. He educates. “See the dog, not just the diagnosis.”
