Sniffing, enrichment and how your dog learns

Everyday engagement is part of a dog’s life, including when their usual activities change.

A closer look.

Sniffing and enrichment are useful subjects for an individual rehabilitation conversation. What a dog enjoys, understands or finds frustrating will vary. Previous experiences and the setting help explain their response to a new activity.

Learning is part of appointments and home routines too. Ask how an agreed task can be explained clearly to your dog and how their choices will be observed. An activity described as enrichment still needs to fit the dog’s current care plan.

Questions to take into a conversation.

  • Which activities does our dog choose and enjoy?
  • What enrichment could be discussed within our current restrictions?
  • How can we recognise when an agreed task is unclear or frustrating?

A Huxley explanation, in time.

Video footage is forthcoming. This is an image placeholder, not a playable video. The written guide is available now; a real House of Hound YouTube video can be added when supplied.

Keep a copy for your next appointment.

Download the written guide and its questions as a plain text file to read or print. It is general owner education, rather than an individual home rehabilitation plan.

Connect this to your dog’s care.
