Preparing for a visit: preferences, handling and muzzles

The details you share before arrival can help the team understand your dog as an individual.

A closer look.

Explain experiences that may affect a visit, including handling preferences, unfamiliar dogs, waiting spaces, travel and equipment. A muzzle, if part of the conversation, should not be treated as a label for the dog or an explanation of their character.

Ask the team what information to send and how arrival can be planned around the individual dog. Preparation can include a discussion of any existing muzzle arrangements, communication, breaks and the people who need to be involved. Avoid inventing a new training or handling plan from a general guide.

Questions to take into a conversation.

  • What should I share about handling and previous appointments?
  • How should we discuss any existing muzzle arrangements?
  • What would help us understand the arrival and assessment process?

A Huxley explanation, in time.
