A walk can mean very different things to different households. Tell your practitioner about your usual routes, surfaces, pace and routines, along with what your dog chooses to do along the way. This helps make an activity discussion more concrete.

If you receive an individual plan, ask about any wording that feels open to interpretation. Clarify how it applies to your dog, who can answer questions and when the guidance will be reviewed. Online articles cannot provide a suitable walking allowance for every dog.

Take into your next conversation

  • Describe what a usual walk actually involves.
  • Ask for clarification where instructions feel vague.
  • Discuss changes to the plan with the team responsible for it.
