Food may be part of your dog’s familiar routines and how you interact together. Before an appointment, tell the team about dietary instructions, allergies or restrictions already identified by your vet, and what your dog usually enjoys.

If food is being discussed as part of an appointment, ask how it fits with the guidance your dog already has. Feeding amounts and individual dietary questions should be discussed with your veterinary team. There is no universal treat allowance in this sample guide.

Take into your next conversation
