HOUSE OF HOUND | LEARN WITH HUXLEY Sample owner education · Website concept 03 Fear and anxiety in the rehabilitation setting Behaviour & wellbeing A dog’s experience of the environment belongs in the plan from the beginning. New spaces, handling, equipment and unfamiliar people can create different experiences for different dogs. A history of difficult visits is useful information, not something an owner needs to apologise for. Avoid assuming what a dog will feel from breed, size or appearance. Discuss the situations you know are difficult and how your dog usually responds. The rehabilitation team can consider these needs within the appointment and talk about whether additional clinical behaviour input is appropriate. A general guide cannot set an individual behaviour plan. QUESTIONS FOR YOUR NEXT CONVERSATION 1. Which situations or experiences should we explain before arrival? 2. How will the environment and handling be considered? 3. When might an individual clinical behaviour conversation be helpful? ABOUT THIS GUIDE This is general owner education, not an individual rehabilitation plan, diagnosis or treatment prescription. Discuss your dog’s circumstances with the veterinary and rehabilitation teams. Huxley doesn’t define. Huxley doesn’t diagnose. Huxley doesn’t prescribe. Huxley doesn’t assume. Huxley doesn’t stereotype. He empathises. He empowers. He educates. “See the dog, not just the diagnosis.”
