HOUSE OF HOUND | LEARN WITH HUXLEY Sample owner education · Website concept 03 Body language: read the dog in context Behaviour & wellbeing Communication is richer than a checklist of signals with one fixed meaning. Owners may hear the term calming signals or see body-language charts online. These can invite closer observation, but a single movement or posture should not be assigned one certain meaning without considering the dog, setting and interaction. Describe the sequence: what was happening before, what the dog did and what followed. That context can help a clinician discuss comfort and communication. Huxley encourages attention and questions, without diagnosing an emotional state from a still image. QUESTIONS FOR YOUR NEXT CONVERSATION 1. What was happening around the dog at the time? 2. Was this different from their usual response in that setting? 3. What information would help the team interpret the whole interaction?
